VISUAL WORKS

This past 10 years I've learned many things from different cultures around South America. I gain great respect of many of their traditions and philosophies (cosmo-visions). These films represent a way to express that pathway in life, and sometimes my own art expression from the questions-actions and social interactions I was part of. Thanks to everyone involve in them, to the Amazon grandfathers “Abuelos“, to the musicians in every single town and to the spirits.

LA RUTA DEL BULLERENGUE

Un maestro… Una festividad… Una expresión… Una Ruta.

Bullerengue is the voice of the African diaspora in Colombia, it is a joyful lament that shakes off sorrow and allows for people to settle within themselves and in their world. But sadly it hasn’t got the recognition that it deserves.

THE COCAMA CHANT

Short film documentary honouring an Elder from the Ronda community in the Colombian amazon basin. This was our third visit to the Amazon, we were recording chants and sounds for our new record album (enseñanza) and I saw how fragile the grandpa was. I came back a few weeks later to do some footage and 4 years later “Don Miguel Chuña“, the elder, the healer... died. He stays in our memories and his chants and medicine will endure beyond inimaginable.

MUSICA EN EL PARAISO DEL TUCAN

Fragment of my first long film documentary about the music of indigenous communities in the Putumayo (south of colombia) area. Their tradition, their carnival, our teachings and learning experiences and all around the carnival time. This documentary came out from our university thesis. Is a co-directed, co-production and co-post produced with Adriana Moreno. It represent the music and culture from 3 different ethnic groups: Ingas, Camentsas and Yanaconas.

Shot entirely with DV CAMs with Carlos Fernandez help and pushed to the limit with surround mixing techniques in 2004-2005.

Is one of the first traditional music DVD published in Colombia.
